A mattress cannot go in a machine. A protector takes the perspiration, the spill and the accident instead, and goes in with the sheets.

No. The waterproof layer is a membrane, not a coating that washes away, and it is made to be washed again and again. Follow the care label: no bleach, tumble dry on low.
Yes. The protector fits the mattress, not the base, so it moves with the mattress. Check the mattress depth before you order.
You sleep on a fabric top, cotton terry or bamboo viscose, with a thin waterproof membrane underneath and your own sheet over it. It is not a plastic sheet.
It is waterproof: a membrane under the fabric keeps liquid on the surface. We do not claim it can never leak. A torn or punctured membrane will let liquid through, so check it when you wash it.
No. We make no bed-bug claim. Our protectors are fitted covers for the top and sides of the mattress, not zip-up encasements.
Change-of-mind returns are accepted within 15 days of delivery on an unused, unwashed item in its original packaging, and you pay the return postage. Faulty items are covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
Match it to your mattress size, then check the depth. The waterproof protector fits mattresses up to 40cm (about 16 inches) deep and the bamboo protector up to about 45cm (18 inches).
We do not give a lifespan. Wash it as the care label says, and replace it when the membrane is torn or the elastic has gone.
A mattress protector is there to keep liquids and stains off the mattress, while a mattress pad adds extra cushioning. Ours is designed to protect without changing how your mattress feels.

The waterproof protector has an 80% cotton terry top over a thin TPU (polyurethane) membrane. The bamboo protector has a bamboo viscose top over a waterproof membrane.
No separate warranty is sold. The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies in full, and faulty items are put right. If the waterproofing fails or the product is faulty, email us with your order number and a photo.
Machine washing is best. Dry cleaning chemicals can damage the waterproof membrane.
No. It’s thin enough that you’ll still feel the support and comfort of your mattress, not a layer of padding.
We make no heat-safety claim for the protectors. Their care instructions keep heat low, with no ironing and a low tumble dry, so check the instructions on your electric blanket or heated pad before you use it on top of a protector.
Bleach can damage the waterproof membrane, so the care instructions say no bleach. Wash with a mild detergent instead.

Which protector do you actually need?
There are two protectors here and they do the same job with a different surface. Everything else on this page is detail around that one choice.
Terry or bamboo
The waterproof protector has an 80% cotton terry top: a towelling weave that feels substantial. The bamboo protector uses bamboo viscose, which feels smoother. Both are waterproof and both go in the washing machine. The choice is simply the surface you would rather sleep on.
Measure the mattress, not the bed
Bed frames are named loosely and mattresses are not. The waterproof protector's sizes carry their measurements on the product page, so take a tape to the mattress: width, length and, most importantly, depth. Depth is what decides whether a fitted skirt stays on, and it is the commonest reason a protector ends up in a heap at the foot of the bed.
What these are not
They are household textiles. A protector keeps liquid off a mattress; a bed pad catches what happens at night and is easier to change than a bed. Neither is a medical device and neither treats or prevents anything, so we make no health claim for either. The mattress bag is water repellent rather than sealed, which matters if you were planning to leave it outdoors.
